POSTPONED: Remember What you Forgot | Film & Conversation

The Black Lives Matter demonstrations of June 2020 were the largest anti-Black racism protests ever seen and turned the world upside down. It was hard not to have read about them or not to have seen the images on the news. You might have had conversations with friends, fellow students or your neighbour about the protests. If you might not have been, you almost certainly know people who were deeply affected by these events. What were, and still are, the experiences of those personally affected by the protests and invested in their after-effects?

In Remember what you forgot, director Clarice Gargard wonders if the BLM movement was a tipping point for change. To answer this, she journeys through time and space and retrieves memories from everyday resisters in the Netherlands, Suriname and Curaçao in the hope that they can foreshadow the future. The film will premiere later this month, but we will have the opportunity to watch it together before it airs on tv. In contrast to the screening on Dutch tv, we will display the movie with English subtitles.

Studium Generale and Theater de Veste invite you to join the conversation and share your experiences and personal stories with fellow students, special guests and others who have their own memories to share. Where do we stand, two years on?
