The history of science and the Dutch “Golden Age” come to life in this excellent biography of Christiaan Huygens.
Join our free reading club about History, Technology, and Culture! This group is open to everyone, including students, staff members, and their partners. After reading (parts) of the book, we will meet informally on the 24th of May to discuss our thoughts and impressions together.
The book we’ll be reading is Dutch Light: Christiaan Huygens and the Making of Science in Europe, by Hugh Aldersey-Williams. The book is a biography of one of the greatest minds in science, but it also covers a lot of aspects of 17th century Dutch and European society. Everything from fiery disputes between competing inventors, to the role of women in the Scientific Revolution, to the impact of music, painting, and war in Dutch high society. A highly recommended read if you want to understand the history of science better!
